Major Emergency Apartment House Fire

Thirty five companies battled this fire which spread through the third floor of a 100x200 occupied apartment building in the Westlake district of Los Angeles. Early in the fire "Emergency Traffic" was called for two firefighters who had fallen through the roof. Both escaped with minor injuries when the collapsing roof cleared a path in the fire below where the firefighters landed. Hundreds of residents could be seen looking on from nearby rooftops and fire escapes.

LAFD Fire Chief William Bamattre was the "Officer In Charge" and
as you can see by his soot-covered turnouts, he led his personnel from the front.
